Many of the Death Café attendees asked for a little more connection during this crazy time. Kudos to our fearless leader, Meg, for agreeing to facilitate two times per month. A unique opportunity to share what’s on your mind regarding this often-unspoken subject. It’s not morbid, we promise! If ever we needed a place to talk about death, this is it!
Death Café’s (http://deathcafe.com/what/) have been steadily gaining fans. At Death Cafe people, often strangers, gather to eat cake, drink tea and discuss death. A Death Cafe is a group directed discussion of death with no agenda, objectives or themes. Even though you will all be in your homes, please enjoy some tea and cake during the call!

Reimbursing NEXT Village volunteers or others who pick up your groceries is easy with mobile applications like Venmo, PayPal, and Apple Pay. Most major banks also have a service that allows you to securely send payments to individuals. If you have a smartphone or computer, you can use these services to securely send money while minimizing contact with other people.
This is safer alternative to handing a volunteer cash before they go to the store and it is much easier for volunteers! During COVID-19, it allows you to social distance more thoroughly because volunteers can drop off your bags by your door without needing to exchange anything with you.
Emily Carter, a NEXT Village volunteer, will walk you through a few of the different options for mobile payments. If you need individual help after this workshop, we have many tech volunteers ready to assist you!

Many “Solo Agers” who are single or married without children have questions and concerns about the future. Join us each month to discuss a different topic to help Solo Agers learn about resources and options available as well as to compare tips and ideas. This is a great forum to talk with others and learn from each other as well as our speakers. Solo Agers also include people whose children or extended family live far away or are not part of your daily life.

Many of you have said you intend to write down your memoirs “someday.”
Here’s your opportunity to have your own personal “ghost writer” who will listen to your stories, record, transcribe and edit them. You’ll receive a printed hardcover book for FREE to share with friends and family.
Brittany Bare, founder of My Life, My Stories (a San Francisco-based nonprofit whose mission is to build intergenerational connections through the power of storytelling) will tell you about their unique program.
My Life, My Stories encourages connections between people of all ages through creativity, storytelling, and the sharing of history. It’s a chance for you to record your legacy while engaging in meaningful conversation with a younger adult interested in your stories and life.
Join us on Zoom to learn how you can be personally matched with a young adult who will record your stories (via phone or Zoom) over the course of several months through My Life My Stories.
Brittany will be joined by a former author who will share about their experience in the program.

Is your organization ready for a crisis you haven’t foreseen? Even the best PR crisis management teams probably didn’t prepare their clients for a global pandemic and its ramifications. While you can’t role play every crisis your organization may encounter, it is critical that you are flexible and ready to respond to things beyond your control that could change your business overnight.
Few people understand this better than Gordon Ho. As the recent CMO at Princess Cruises, he was at the center of the maelstrom as passengers from the Diamond Princess cruise ship were quarantined on board as the coronavirus outbreak unfolded. Gordon shares an overview of key events and crisis communication learnings from the Diamond Princess coronavirus outbreak in Japan.
Gordon will share in-depth information about Princess emergency preparation, care teams, content strategies and communication plans in this engaging session. In addition, he’ll share lessons learned to help you and your organization prepare to be responsive, flexible, and adaptive to unanticipated crisis that could impact your customers, staff or other constituents. Hopefully your team will never face the type of crisis Gordon’s team did, but his experience navigating pandemics, politics and people can provide valuable lessons to help you prepare for the unexpected.
This event is organized by the Stanford Club of San Francisco and NEXT Village members are invited to attend.
> Zoom login & phone dial in number will be sent in reminder email from NEXT Village 24 hours prior to event.
Moderator: Trisha Thadani, City Hall Reporter @ The Chronicle
Reminder: Election day is Tuesday, November 3rd, 2020 with the opportunity for mail-in ballots beginning 29 days prior.
This debate is brought to you by the Telegraph Hill Dwellers, NEXT Village, North Beach Business Association, North Beach Neighbors, and Barbary Coast Neighborhood Association.

Stress comes in many ways. It’s that uneasy feeling we get when we’re upset — whether it’s because we’re angry, worried, depressed or disturbed for other reasons. For many of us, it’s hard not to be stressed and anxious in the midst of challenging times.
In Stress Buster workshops, we’ll learn how stress starts and a simple effective method to handle your reaction to situations. You’ll learn a five step process to reduce stress and help you better respond to any situation in a helpful way, instead of getting upset.
This series has been a lot of fun and practical for participants! Leave each session with new insights on how to better handle whatever life throws at you.
Stress Busters (also known as Ding Sum) has been serving seniors in San Francisco for over 30 years, reaching 900 people through monthly in person seminars. Until we can meet in person again, join us on Zoom to learn how Stress Busters five simple steps can help you handle stress, make better decisions and live a more positive life.
Speaker – Eileen Chan is a native San Franciscan, trained as an optometrist and married with three grown children. She has volunteered with Stress Busters since the organization was founded over 30 years ago.
