A NEXT VILLAGE SF MEMBERSHIP CAN ENRICH YOUR LIFE!
TRANSPORATION
One of our most frequent requests. Often, it’s not very far, but it’s still very important. When a volunteer can’t be identified, we can provide a LYFT as part of a grant fund.
SHOPPING
Shopping for the member, or going with them, often on short notice, to their preferred stores at a time that works for them.
TECHNOLOGY SUPPORT
For phones, I-pads, computers Reading mail and books to low-vision members, in home or at the library.
REFERRAL INFO
For questions about City services, Meals on Wheels, The V.A., Assisted Living, downsizing, HICAP, hearing and vision services, medical devices, Open House etc.
IN-HOME SAFETY ASSESSMENT
Provided to all members at no cost, followed by with volunteers who help implement the recommended changes. (Tape down rugs, move cords out of the walking path, etc.)
ONLINE SHOPPING
Arrange online shopping for members when getting out to stores has become a challenge. We can then send volunteers to help break down the boxes from delivered items and take them to the recycling bin. . Send volunteers to break down boxes from items that had been delivered from online shopping, and take those boxes down to the recycling bin.
DE-CLUTTERING
Organize volunteers to go to members’ homes, help pack up unwanted items, and drop them off at The Goodwill.
BUILD COMMUNITY
We can organize a team of concerned neighbors to help neighbors who have no support system but perhaps have multiple needs.
For example, help with groceries, transportation, getting a hearing aid, bill paying, de-cluttering, companionship, help replacing household furnishings, and more.
POST-HOSPITAL HELP
Set up systems for people who have been discharged from the hospital, (likely too early) so that they can get their apartment tidied up, can shop online for groceries and meal delivery services, and arrange for transportation to post-hospital appointments – as well as arranging for volunteers to provide well-being checks and other tasks as needed.
COMPANIONSHIP
Isolation is as dangerous as the effects of smoking! We have friendly volunteers just waiting to connect with you. Need company at home? We can do that. Someone to take you to coffee or to your favorite watering hole?
Just ask. Villages aren’t just about things you “need to do”, we are also about things you “want to do”. Many times, seniors are reluctant to ask for something that isn’t absolutely necessary. To that we say, pshaw!
ONE HARD THING
NEXT partners with SF Evening Rotary, a group of young, helpful professionals, for this twice-yearly event. We’ll change your smoke detector batteries, flashlight batteries, light bulbs, etc.
We also flip mattresses, hang photos, wash windows, move heavy furniture – tasks that need a couple of strong people to accomplish. Let us stand on the ladder for you.
