California residents have a new way to protect their identities online for years to come — and it takes less than five minutes of work.
California has launched a first-in-the-nation online portal called DROP that makes it much easier for residents to protect their digital privacy. Instead of contacting data brokers one by one, Californians can now submit a single request to have much of their personal data deleted. Launched on January 1, the process takes just a few minutes and requires basic information and verification. Once completed, data brokers must delete collected data, helping reduce spam calls, targeted fraud, and risks from stalkers.
