Due to the City’s $400 million budget shortfall, the Mayor’s Office has eliminated funding for NEXT Village’s District 2 University (D2U) — our beloved social and cultural program led by the incomparable Donna Booher – which represents over ⅓ of our monthly events. Please note that this will not impact volunteer-to-member services.
Unless the Supervisors and the Mayor restore funding, the program will end on June 30, 2026. Many other programs for seniors and persons with disabilities have also been cut or eliminated. All were funded by The Dignity Fund, a charter amendment that set aside $3M per year for such programs.
District 2 University costs the City just $142,000 per year, and represents 25% of our budget.
