Armchair travel goes back in time to September 21, 1981 when one of the last colonies of the British empire, Belize, gained independence.
NEXT Village member (and 50 year San Francisco resident), Phil Williams was there. He will describe what impelled him to take a long weekend off work and jump on a plane to Belize City to witness the climax of an international crisis that involved the CIA, the Sandinistas and Guatemalan generals.
He will describe how his 3-day long adventure took him from the Mayan ruins at Altun Ha, to the bars of Cinderellatown to the governor’s mansion at midnight when the British flag was lowered for the last time.
