Turns out many of us have collections, whether intentional or accidental. Maybe you made the mistake of telling someone 40 years ago you like penguins — and now your house is covered in them thanks to generous friends! For others, an item picked up on a trip like salt & pepper shaker hula dancers from Hawaii has now been joined by dozens more. Or you started collecting stamps or coins as a kid.

Here is your chance to dust off a few items from your collection to Show & Tell us about on Zoom to an appreciative audience!

If you are not a collector, you are welcome to be a voyeur and enjoy listening to others’ stories.

This is an informal discussion group with no agenda other than to have fun and share stories. Last month we had a lot of laughs showing off travel trinkets. This is during lunch time, so bring a brown bag lunch to eat while joining us on Zoom for an event that is bound to put a smile on your face!

In addition to the Aug 21 monthly Stress Busters workshop, we’re excited to announce Eileen and Gary have agreed to offer a more informal and interactive discussion group on August 13 at 2PM!

The discussion group is an opportunity to share and discuss things such as:

• Any questions about the 5 steps for reducing stress (see list at http://www.123dingsum.org/how-to-ding-sum )
• Any tips to share from your experiences?
• Anything you’d like help with?
• What did you learn when you reviewed and reevaluated a situation?
• Have the 5 steps been helpful?

Stress Busters (also known as Ding Sum) has been serving seniors in San Francisco for over 30 years, reaching 900 people through monthly in person seminars. Until we can meet in person again, join us on Zoom to learn how Stress Busters five simple steps can help you handle stress, make better decisions and live a more positive life.

Speaker – Eileen Chan is a native San Franciscan, trained as an optometrist and married with three grown children. She has volunteered with Stress Busters since the organization was founded over 30 years ago.

Meeting the Challenge of Solo Aging

       A Presentation by Dr. Sara Zeff Geber

Are you single? Are you married without children? Do you have adult children who live far away?  Is your extended family not a part of your daily life?  If you answered yes to any of these, you are a Solo Ager.   

If you are or will be aging on your own, we invite you to attend this presentation and discussion to learn about your options and the decisions necessary to create a fulfilling life now and a secure future in the years ahead. Dr. Sara Zeff Geber will focus on: 

• Identifying what matters most
• Finding resources in lieu of family to provide what you need as you age
• Considering how and where you wish to live
• Navigating your post-retirement life.

This interactive presentation and discussion (incorporating Zoom break-out groups) will provide you with the information on how to be your own best advocate in the years ahead and understand the steps to take in building a rich life, regardless of family support.  Although the topic is serious in nature, Dr. Geber’s style is light-hearted, conversational, and provocative.

This presentation is based on Sara’s book, Essential Retirement Planning for Solo Agers. Sara defines a Solo Ager as anyone, single or partnered, who does not have children or is aging alone for any reason.

Presenter: Sara Zeff Geber, Ph.D., CRC, recipient of the “2018 Influencers in Aging” designation by PBS’ Next Avenue, is an author, certified retirement coach, and professional speaker on retirement and aging.  Dr. Geber is the author of the 2018 book, Essential Retirement Planning for Solo Agers: A Retirement and Aging Roadmap for Single and Childless Adults, which was selected as a “best book on aging well” by the WSJ. Sara is also a regular contributor to Forbes.com on the topics of aging and retirement. A Solo Ager herself, Sara lives with her husband in Santa Rosa, California.
